As a 49ers fan I have to say that it was a very exciting game. We could’ve done without digging ourselves a huge hole. We could’ve done much worse than making the amazing comeback that we did. To loose by 3 points to an excellent squad like the Ravens is nothing to be ashamed of- and if it had been all a the hands of the Ravens I wouldn’t have an issue with the loss at all.
This is not about the Ravens, making that clear, the Ravens played an excellent game. They gutted it out…held on…and won.
However they also benefited from some blown calls, in fact I think they were the beneficiaries of 90 percent of the blown calls.
We have a running into the kicker call on the Ravens that netted a 5 yard penalty… that could easily have been a roughing the kicker call leading to a first down and extended drive that could’ve netted 7 points…instead of a made retake of the field goal.
Alright now we know what the matchups are for both USA and England in the Round of 16…the win or go home rounds for those who don’t follow Football.
USA vs. Ghana
First up on Saturday team USA will face Ghana the match will start at 2:30 PM EDT and it will either be on ESPN, ESPN 2 or you can watch it on ESPN3.com.
The last time USA played Ghana was in the 2006 World Cup and Ghana won that matchup 2-1 so USA will be looking for redemption for certain. Ghana known as the Black Stars will give them all that they can handle but team USA has improved since 2006 a great deal and I think they have a fantastic chance to move on to the Quarters.
As for my Three Lions…this will be nervewracking…
Final Standings for Group C!
United States 3 1 0 2 4 3 1 5
England 3 1 0 2 2 1 1 5
Slovenia 3 1 1 1 3 3 0 4
Algeria 3 0 2 1 0 2 -2 1
The numbers L-R stand for:
Games Played-Games Won-Games Lost-Games Tied-Goals For(Scored)-Goals Against(Scored By Opponents)-+/-(Positive or Negative Goal Differential)-Total Group Points.
Both the U.S. and England had One win (Today) and Two ties (1st and 2nd Games)- the U.S. finished top of the Group based on scoring more goals than England over their matches.
This is the first time since 1930 that the U.S. has done so well in the Cup and I as an England fan applaud them. Good on you lads.
To my Three Lions it’s time to get serious, no more stumbling around alright, it’s the round of 16, win or go home.
So…who do England and the U.S. play next?
