Alan Taylor to Direct!: Alan Taylor To Direct Terminator 5

Reef Entertainment to make new Videogames!: Reef Entertainment to make new Videogames!

So it’s a huge day for fans of the Terminator franchise after a long quite spell two bits of Terminator news hit at the same time and I’ve got to say I’m really quite stoked by the news.

And the Director is…

Terminator has always attracted big name directors for instance I distinctly remember a time when Ridley Scott was said to be in the mix for directing duties on Terminator 3.

Rightt now it looks like Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Thor: The Dark World) has come out on top at the end of the selection process and is in final negotiations to take the directors chair for 2015’s Terminator.

This is very exciting as his work as a director on Game of Thrones and Thor: The Dark World speak to Alan’s consistently making a living and breathing world a priority. Also because of said work we know that he knows how to direct both drama and action and draw powerful performances from the actors under his direction.  This is a huge positive in my book and goes to show that Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures are indeed taking the future of the Terminator franchise very very seriously indeed.

Let me just take this one line to further note that they are obviously going for a quality director in Taylor and distancing themselves from the likes of McG whose Terminator Salvation while featuring exquisite production design was let down almost everywhere else especially in it’s writer’s strike hampered script.

And for the record the other directors that didn’t make the final cut so to speak were pretty big names as well:

Early on they were looking at Ang Lee (Life of Pi, Hulk) Rian Johnson (Looper) and  and (Prisoners) director Denis Villeneuve all interesting possibilities in their own right.

Congratulations Mr. Taylor I’m very excited to see what you do.

You can expect more news as the film ramps up the production start and filming begins in January.

Terminator Returns to Videogame Consoles and PC!

Comparatively little is known about any kind of details beyond the fact that Reef Entertainment a British game developer has acquired the exclusive licensing rights to develop videogames based on Terminator and Terminator 2.

The deal was broken with Studiocanal who owns the rights to the Terminator films.

They will be released under the title banner: “Terminators: The Video Game”

“Here at Reef we are huge fans of (the) 1984 & 1991 sci-fi action master-pieces,” said a spokesperson in a statement. “It’s an incredible opportunity and an equally huge responsibility to create a game that does great justice to the motion pictures. We are studying all aspects and influences of the Terminator universe defined in ‘Terminator’ and ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day.’ We have started on our journey and are drawing on all the diverse materials available to produce a high quality, authentic and exciting Terminator video game.”

Once again I must note that these guys seem to be taking their responsibility seriously, this should be interesting to keep and eye on in and of itself.

So all in all a great day to be a Terminator fan!

I’ll Be Back.
